My parents are flying home from Colorado %26amp; there is blizzard conditions there. I am REALLY REALLY worried that something will happen. I just get so worried about everything and if anything happens to them.. I just don't know. I need reassurance. Will they still fly in blizzards? Is it safe to? Also, they will be flying at night so does that make it 10x worse?|||Commercial jet flights tend to fly ABOVE the weather, so the question should be, is it safe to take off or land in blizzard contitions.
The fact is, that if the weather at the airport is bad enough, flights will be diverted or cancelled. The airport, nor the airlines want a crash anymore than you do.|||Absolutely, if it is too dangerous the flight will be canceled.
Just to let you know however, modern airliners are very sophisticated machines. The pilots need enough visual reference to get safely on the runway, and stay aligned, but that can be as low as 1/4 of a mile. They also need clean wings, but between de-ice, anti-ice, heated wings, and the fact that blowing snow does not adhere anyway, most airliners can depart safely even in a blizzard at night, as long as the safety requirements are met. Once airborne, they don't need to see anything. Radio navigational aids, auto-pilot systems, on-board gyros (sometimes even laser gyros), GPS, weather radar, traffic radar, radio altimeters, etc. all of which the pilots will be very proficient at using. So rest assured, your parents are very safe.|||They will cancel the flight if it is blizzard conditions. don't worry yourself. Call the airlines to find out if the flight was canceled or delayed. That's the best way.|||They won't fly in dangerous conditions. Don't worry yourself, just think they are safe.|||If it is too dangerous to fly they will cancel the flight. The airlines don't want their planes to crsah either.
